Setting the Bar for Exterior Painting in Larimer, Weld, and Boulder Counties

Elegant Edge Painting repaints and repairs home exteriors for upscale homes across Larimer, Weld, and Boulder counties from Fort Collins, Colorado. Chief Painter Pat Dougherty, a master painter with more than 30 years in the trade, walks every home, guides color selection, and inspects the finished work himself.

High-altitude sun and freeze-thaw cycles are hard on an exterior finish, so we clean every surface, sand where needed, and prime before we paint. We paint with Sherwin-Williams and Benjamin Moore premium products. Pat gives you a free estimate with any repairs included, along with the HOA documentation your community requires. We are insured and bonded, EPA Lead-Safe Certified for pre-1978 homes, five-star rated on Google, and we have a 10-year workmanship warranty.

Elegant Edge did an outstanding job painting the entire exterior of our 100+ year old historic home. The attention to detail was truly amazing - clean, precise edges everywhere including around all the many windows (both glass storm windows and screens). What really impressed me was the extra work he did without even being asked. He identified and fixed wood rot in several soffit areas, using the appropriate repair method for each spot - sometimes wood replacement, sometimes quality filler. He even replaced an entire piece of wood at the bottom of our barn door. Most contractors would have just painted over these issues, but he fixed them properly. This shows both high quality workmanship and high character. Beyond the excellent painting, his professionalism was exceptional. Communication was clear throughout the project, he provided a detailed contract that outlined exactly what would be done and the cost (which he honored), and he was reliable - showing up when he said he would. He maintained a clean worksite each day and did a thorough cleanup upon completion. After working with many contractors over the years, I can say this level of communication, reliability, and quality is rare. The name "Elegant Edge" perfectly describes the work - highly recommend!

After evaluating multiple companies, we went with Elegant Edge for our home improvements. We bought a brand-new house, which was a blank canvas. Elegant Edge instilled confidence in us with their knowledge, recommendations and understanding our vision of what we wanted done. Elegant Edge went above and beyond and was able to provide us not only outstanding paint work, but was able to assist us in all remodeling aspects, i.e. trim, electrical, tile work, etc. We were remote for most of the remodeling and the communication was outstanding and the staff was accommodating with any last-minute changes or curve balls that were thrown at them. They changed our blank canvas into a beautiful model home. Their prices are fair, and I plan to use them for more renovation projects in the future. I would not hesitate to recommend this company.

After working with Elegant Edge Painting for a year on a $700k luxury rehab, I couldn’t recommend him more. The painting is obviously their super power. But far more than just painting. Eye for perfection: near the end of my project, Pat, the owner, stayed till 7:00 am working 24 hours straight as he wouldn’t leave till he knew everything was perfect Design: feel confident knowing that they’ll give honest feedback, and if needed select the perfect color scheme for your project. Staining: they matched perfectly the stain I had in a 100 year old bar, didn’t think it would be possible until I saw it done. Incredible eye that can only be learned from 30+ years of experience. Craftsman: Painting is their focus, but the list of trades they covered for me is plumbing repair, trim work, window installation, hanging doors, fine finish work, on site project management, concrete work mand countless others. Truly can’t recommend Elegant Edge more, couldn’t have completed my project without them.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is the best time of year to paint a house exterior in Colorado?

Elegant Edge Painting paints exteriors from early spring through late fall, when daytime temperatures hold above 50 degrees and overnight lows stay mild. Colorado's daily temperature swings matter as much as the daytime high, since paint needs stable conditions to cure. We schedule around the forecast rather than the calendar.

  • How do you protect exterior paint from Colorado sun?

Elegant Edge Painting uses premium exterior lines from Sherwin-Williams and Benjamin Moore formulated for UV resistance. Colorado sits at altitude, where thinner atmosphere means more ultraviolet reaching your siding than most of the country, and UV is what breaks down the binder holding pigment to the surface. South and west elevations take the worst of it and fail first. Darker colors absorb more heat and fade faster than lighter ones. Preparation matters as much as product, since a coating bonded to a properly cleaned and primed surface holds its film longer under UV load.

  • How long does exterior paint last in Colorado?

In Colorado, exterior paint holds seven to ten years when the surface is fully prepared and premium product goes on, five to seven with mid-grade product or partial preparation, and three to five when either one is skipped. High-altitude UV and repeated freeze-thaw cycles are harder on paint here than in milder climates, which is why preparation matters more than the paint itself. A finish applied over dirt or failing paint can start peeling within two or three years. Elegant Edge Painting backs its workmanship for ten years against peeling, blistering, chipping, and coating separation.

  • What preparation goes into an exterior paint job?

Elegant Edge Painting cleans and primes every surface, and sands where needed, before any finish coat goes on. That means washing away dirt and chalking, scraping and sanding failing paint back to a sound edge, repairing damaged wood and stucco, caulking gaps, and priming bare areas. Preparation determines whether a finish holds for years or starts failing in two. When prices come in below ours, preparation and quality of paint are usually where they are cutting corners.

  • What does an exterior repaint cost in Northern Colorado?

A full exterior repaint runs $6,000 to $12,000 for a 2,000 square foot home in Northern Colorado. Pricing comes down to the square footage, the number of stories, the condition of the existing finish, and the surfaces involved. That price includes surface preparation, any repairs found during the walkthrough, and Sherwin-Williams or Benjamin Moore product. At Elegant Edge Painting our Chief Painter listens to your vision, helps guide your paint selection so the end result turns out how you expect, inspects the exterior of your home and gives you an honest price.

  • What surfaces are included in a full exterior repaint?

A full exterior repaint by Elegant Edge Painting covers siding, stucco, trim, fascia, soffits, garage doors, entry doors, and shutters. Often, customers include decks, railings, and fences in their full transformation project. Pat scopes the project around what you actually want done, whether that is the whole exterior or the surfaces that need it most.

  • Can you repair siding and trim as part of a repaint?

Elegant Edge Painting repairs damaged wood, cracked stucco, and failing caulk as part of a full exterior repaint. Rotted trim, split siding boards, and separated caulk joints all have to be corrected before any coating goes on. Pat identifies what needs repair during the walkthrough, and it is included in your quote.

  • How to choose exterior paint colors

Color selection and sheen of the house and trim takes into consideration complementing the colors of the roof, the stone or brick, and the hardscaping. Sun, shade, and overcast sky also play a big role in which shade of the color family you choose to get the desired outcome. Often homeowners settle on a color from the paint card they picked up at the store, and when it actually goes on the house it turns out to be nothing like what they wanted.

With more than 30 years painting homes across Northern Colorado, Pat helps guide clients on colors and sheen selection so they achieve the transformation they envisioned.

  • How do you get HOA approval to paint your house?

Elegant Edge Painting works with homeowners through the HOA approval process across Northern Colorado's covenant-controlled communities. Most associations require you to submit a request to an Architectural Review Committee before any exterior work begins, including physical paint chips with manufacturer names and color codes, the areas being painted, and often your contractor's details. Committees typically respond within 30 to 60 days. Pat helps you select colors that fall inside your association's approved palette and provides the product and finish details your submission requires.

  • What is the best exterior paint for Colorado homes?

Elegant Edge Painting paints with Sherwin-Williams and Benjamin Moore. Both make exterior lines that hold their color under high-altitude sun and stay flexible as a house expands and contracts through Colorado's freeze-thaw cycles. Those products carry a manufacturer warranty on the paint itself, which sits alongside the 10-year workmanship warranty Elegant Edge provides on the labor.

  • How soon can you start an exterior painting project?

Elegant Edge Painting schedules exterior projects around the weather and the current book of work. Most exterior repaints run three to seven days once they begin, with larger homes or heavy preparation taking longer. Pat gives you the expected start and duration at your consultation. Once we start, our painters stay on your home until the work is done. Colorado weather can move a schedule, and if that happens we stay in close communication as we work around it. We won't jeopardize the life of the finish by forcing a job to get done.
